So it's an "All Ages" show... what does that mean for the 21+?

Throwing "All Ages" shows, concerts or events in Utah can be a bit tricky!  There are a several laws to abide by with strict regulations and hefty fines.  As an adult in Utah, I like to enjoy listening to my favorite bands with a fermented beverage or two but the flow of the bar at a concert can be somewhat frustrating if you don't know what to expect.

Here are a few things to know before you head to the show to have the best Concert + Bar experience:

  • Make sure you have your ID - State law no longer requires memberships.  Instead, they require bars to use electronic  I.D. scanners for each patron’s ID to ensure there will be no underage drinking.  Your valid ID will be scanned at the 21+ entrance and you will receive a hand stamp.  The stamp allows you to travel between the separate sides of the venue.  The line for the bar can be slow to start but once all the IDs have been scanned flow between the two sides is much easier.
  • How much alcohol is in this? -  State law also requires the use of a metered dispensing systems, calibrated to dispense 1.5 ounces or less of primary liquor for a shot or into a mixed drink.
"All beverages must have 3.2% alcohol by weight or less (or 4% or less by volume) per drink, per person."
What this means to you is if you want to order more than one drink you need more than one person - since pitcher's have more fluid oz. you need two people to order one.
  • Don't forget to close your tab! - Alcohol may be served from 10:00am to 1:00am.  However, with concerts and shows the bar at In the Venue shuts down when the music stops.
  • Can't take it with you -  No cups, bottles, cans, or other "open containers"  can leave the bar area - through the under 21 side or the exits.  You can bring you juice bar items in but once in the bar they cannot leave - even that bottle of water...
Those are most of the questions and concerns I have heard from attending my share of concerts at In the Venue.  What bar tips do you have to share?
